At the beginning of 2016, when it was announced that actor Joseph Fiennes was tapped to play Michael Jackson in a British dramedy, people were (understandably) pissed. After all, Fiennes is a white, British dude. Jackson is a black man. That's not how things are work — theoretically, anyway.
Despite the backlash, Fiennes, 46, defended his role as Jackson in a January 2016 interview with Entertainment Tonight:
"(Jackson) definitely had an issue — a pigmentation issue — and that's something I do believe. He was probably closer to my color than his original color," Fiennes said, later saying that the movie is a "light comedy look" that's not meant to be "malicious."
"It's actually endearing," he added.
Well, the trailer for the dramedy just dropped, and we've got our first look at Fiennes as Jackson...
