Okay, this might be hard for you to believe, so sit down and take a deep breath before reading on:
Chris Brown is in legal trouble.
Shocking, we know, but this time he’s entering a whole new area of illegality: possession of an exotic animal.
It all started last month when Brown posted a pic of his 3-year old daughter Royalty holding his pet capuchin monkey (that's the really cute one from Ace Ventura) named Fiji. The internet got heated up REAL quick, claiming that a young girl had no business dealing with a potentially dangerous animal like that.
Numerous reports came into the California Department of Fish and Wildlife following that post, and the authorities subsequently launched an investigation. They were about to act on a search warrant, in fact, but Brown voluntarily gave up Fiji before that became necessary.
First thing’s first: the monkey is fine.
Chris, on the other hand, might not be. Since he didn’t have a permit for the animal, he could face up to 6-months in prison.
Brown’s attorney — who must be a very busy man, considering his client — had a very lawyer-y yet surprisingly insightful quote about the whole affair: “As I leave my office in Downtown L.A. and walk past people sleeping on the street on my way to defend people charged by the City Attorney with selling medical marijuana ... now spending taxpayer money on investigating monkey business, this completes the circle on his absurdity."
Of course, this is far from the first time Chris has had legal problems. You can check out a summary of his colorful rap sheet right here...
