2017 must be the Year of the Noose on some racist calendar, because they have been popping up all over the country. According to the Sun Sentinel down in Florida, one recruit was fired from the Pompano Beach Fire Training Center and three others resigned after a lime green noose was found left on the only Black recruit's chair.

When the Fire Chief at the training camp learned about the incident, he was furious. "That noose, I don't care what you call it, fishing knot or whatever, it is a noose," he told Local 10 News. "It represents hatred, it represents death to African-Americans, and we won't tolerate that here. This department is too good. This city is too good. This community is too good to put up with that."

Did we time travel back to the 1950s by accident? Racism never died, but why are references to lynching Black people making such an aggressive comeback?

Days before the African American History museum noose was found, a noose was found hanging from a tree at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden not far away. The mayor of D.C. tweeted at the time: "It is an unfortunate irony that a sign of intimidation/ignorance would be placed on our National Mall where Americans of all walks of life come to learn more about who we are, celebrate our diversity and leave inspired to improve their lives, communities and country."
