It’s not as bad as “grab her by the pussy,” but it’s close.
President of the United States Donald Trump just out-and-out harassed a female reporter during a press conference in the White House, and the woman in question is being nice by simply describing it as “bizzare."
The Donald was making a congratulatory phone call to the new Taoiseach (basically a Prime Minister) of Ireland. So, in the spirit of the occasion, there were a fair amount of Irish reporters on hand. Caitriona Perry was one of them.
On the call, Trump can be heard saying, “Hello how are you?... Congratulations on your great victory. We have so many people from Ireland in this country. I know so many of them, too. I feel I know all of them. But I just want to congratulate you. That was a great victory that you had.”
Not the most eloquent congratulations ever – he still somehow managed to dedicate two sentences to bragging how many Irish people he knows. *the entire city of Boston rolls its eyes*
And then it gets weird. “We have a lot of your Irish press watching us, they are just now leaving the room.” That’s when he signals to Perry and says, “Where are you from?”
As the stunned reporter wandered over, he continued, “We have all this beautiful Irish press.” And once she identified herself, Trump dropped this line: “Caitriona Perry, she has a nice smile on her face, so I bet she treats you well.”
Perry didn’t waste a lot of time commenting on the awkward moment, as she posted this clip of the incident with a telling caption:
The rest of the world, however, isn’t being nearly so nice about it:
Enough to get him impeached? No. Another reason for you to cringe about our “leader?” Absolutely.
