The #22PushUpChallenge is the New #IceBucketChallenge --Get Ready--You Could Be Called Out Next!

A lot of what trends on the internet is terrible rubbish. That blue and black/white and gold dress, for example. It serves no purpose but to cause fights with your coworkers. Also it was obviously blue and I won’t hear another word on the matter.

But sometimes, social media can do some good. That’s what a number of celebrities are hoping the #22PushUpChallenge will do.

The idea is similar to the Ice Bucket Challenge which, in case you’ve forgotten the meaning, raised money for ALS research. The campaign was wildly successful, raising in the neighborhood of $220 million for research and prevention.

This new push-up challenge is to support military veterans suffering from PTSD. On average, 22 veterans commit suicide every day in America. The organization #22Kill is the creator of the campaign, hoping to draw attention to this shocking statistic.

And if their challenge videos continue to get this much celebrity endorsement, they ought to make an impression indeed. Already The Rock, John Krasinski, Chris Pratt, Kevin Hart and many more have participated.

Participants are hoping to spread the word much in the same way as the ice bucket, by challenging three other people to make a video, and so on and so forth. And of course, making a difference requires more than just a social media post – donations to #22Kill can be made here. Their website says all donations, “are used to support partnered organizations who offer programs focusing on veteran empowerment, mental health treatment, and therapy/counseling for veterans and their families.”

The site has a dedicated page to the #22PushupChallenge, where they show a counter tracking all the push-ups posted so far. As of Wednesday they’re tracked over 7 million, 15 million short of the 22 mil goal. But at the rate this thing is spreading, that goal could be surpassed any day now.

Now stop what you’re doing and give them 22!
