A 26-year old man with a prior criminal record has been arrested after plowing his car through Times Square, killing one and injuring more than twenty.

First things first: officials are already claiming this wasn’t an act of terrorism. According to Mayor Bill de Blasio, “Based on information we have at this moment, there is no indication that this was an act of terrorism.”

The suspect Richard Rojas has a history of drunk driving, and already admitted to authorities he’d been smoking marijuana that morning.

Besides drugs, there’s no apparent motive for the crime. His exact path through NYC isn’t even known yet, although several witnesses have come forward saying he was driving extremely fast and clearly targeting people.

One 18-year old girl is confirmed dead at this point, and 22 injured.

The rampage ended when Rojas wrecked his car against some sidewalk pylons. He then tried to make a run for it, looking like a legit crazy person sprinting through the streets. He was almost immediately captured by a mixed group of civilians and NYPD.
