Sick of seeing Gigi, Bella, and Kendall? Craving some more diversity in the fashion industry, perhaps? Look no further.
Meet Halima Aden. The 19-year-old model was born in a refugee camp in Kenya and made her way over to the U.S. when she was just a child.
Years later, she competed for Miss Minnesota while wearing a burkini:
Although she lost the pageant, she did get signed by IMG models, which is a total win in our book:
Aden became the first hijab-wearing model signed to IMG. And now...she can add another totally badass thing to her resume: she walked in Kanye's Yeezy Season 5 at New York Fashion Week...all while wearing a hijab.
People were thrilled to finally see some representation on the runway:
Despite the excitement among fans, Kanye was a no-show and did not come out at the end. Regardless, the show went on and was badass.
Aden showed her excitement with a post on her Instagram page: “I signed with the top modeling agency in the WORLD and still wore my hijab as my crown. Don’t ever change yourself. Change the game."
We can't wait to see more of Aden. 👑
