Coca-Cola recently announced their partnership in the building of the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, making the brand the sole non-alcoholic beverage provider of the Atlanta Falcons. This project is not just big for Coca-Cola, it’s also a life changing opportunity for so many Atlanta residents-- take Ian Miller for example.

Miller was convicted of armed robbery at the tender of 16. His life could’ve taken a negative turn from that point, but he decided early on that  he didn’t want to “hit that revolving door,” as he told Fox 5 Atlanta, he wanted to better his community.

Miller earned his GED certificate and qualified for the Atlanta based community program, Westside Works.

Westside Works is “focused on creating employment opportunities and job training for residents of the Westside community,” according to their website.

Coca-Cola, an Atlanta based company, decided to partner with Westside Works to create job opportunities; they brought on 100 graduates of the program to work on the stadium project and rebuild the Westside neighborhood.

Miller graduated from the program with the skills and certifications necessary for construction work. “Words can’t describe the feeling that I felt actually holding the plaque…actually completing something other than prison time,” he said in the Fox 5 Atlanta interview.

Coke and the Falcons felt his inspirational story was something they could stand behind. Now Miller works on site in constructing the Mercedes-Benz stadium that will host the Falcons in 2017. He is also featured in the official commercial announcement of the partnership.

Miller has taken on a second job as a carpenter and is looking into continuing his education and learning about engineering. And he’s expecting his first child later this year....so he's more determined than ever.  “Don’t let anybody deter you from what you want to do. Don’t let them discourage you and say that it can’t be done…It’s not impossible.”

What an incredible story of triumph. Watch Miller’s feature in the full announcement video below.
